Bathroom TV’s: Restrictions and Guidelines?

With the uptick towards luxury bathrooms, more and more renovations and new builds are featuring wall mounted TVs in their floorplans. While some think this idea is just over the top, many others would love to watch their favorite shows while having a soak. It begs the question, though, is having a TV over the bathtub or nearby safe? We asked our Contractor for this opinion and any restrictions and guidelines he could find on this burgeoning trend.

He mentioned that by code, you couldn’t install anything electrical within 3 feet of the tub or shower to avoid anyone standing in either and contacting electricity.  It is also a possibility that the TV could fall off the wall and into the tub, so it would have to be at least 3 feet away from the edge.  He recommended installing it about 3′ to 4′ above the top of the tub and on a  wall mount bracket that will adjust up and down to fine tune the viewing angle.
