Wood Burning vs. Gas Fireplaces –Pros and Cons

With the advent of gas fireplaces, many people have switched completely from using the traditional wood burning kind. Many remain, though, that love the original method. Here are some pros and cons to consider before deciding on which fireplace is best for you!  For wood burning fireplaces, many people love to hear the crackle of the fire inside of their home and love the “woodsy” smell these put out. However some cons to consider are that they require regular cleaning. And no matter the screen you choose, there will be some smoke and dust that will end up in your living space. Gas fireplaces, on the other hand, are much neater, but put out less heat than their wood-burning alternatives. In addition, you obviously can expect your gas bill to go up, since that is what propels the flame. However, with a gas burning model, you never have to worry about getting kindling wood or actually starting a fire, as most come with an electronic ignition switch. So before you decide, determine which elements are most important to you. Do you love the cozy look, feel, and smell of the wood burning option, or is the ease of use more important?
