Bathroom Trends for 2013

Sleek Sanctuary

Bathrooms in 2013 are trending towards modern.  Wall mounted vanities and undermounted sinks are all the rage, especially with smooth, clean finishes in the lineup.  Things you may see in bathrooms following this trend are frameless mirrors, hidden-hardware vanity drawers and doors, modern vessel sinks, bright neutral colors and frameless showers.  Intricate details in the bathroom are phasing out as streamline gives the look of a sanitary space.  The less nooks and crannies there are for dust and mold to hide, the fresher your space will appear, and it’s always easier to relax in a space that is nice and clean.

Freestanding tubs are also a big trend now.  I posted an article showcasing some fabulous tubs awhile back, but you can see another great option above.  These tubs do require a bit more breathing room, so it’s a great solution for your master bath.  You can get creative with floor mounted faucets, or even by adding an accent table near to hold your phone, or extra soap.

Natural Natural Natural

Bathrooms that are inspired by nature are “in” this season.  Bring your bath into this trend by using finishes that would be found outdoors.  Most often you’ll notice natural wood finishes, stone flooring and tilework, concrete, slate, and a color scheme that resembles the great outdoors, like light neutrals.  Faux wood ceramic tiles are the next big thing for bathroom floors.  They come in plank form and are undoubtedly unique for your natural bathroom.  Add some candles and other accessories to soften up the space.  Lots of natural light will accent this bathroom style well.

 Color

Bathrooms for this season are headed in a bright direction, and that’s great news in the eyes of the creative homeowner.  Too often, bathrooms get stuck with plain beige or uninspired white color schemes, but not this year.  Even in this transitional bathroom, the designer found space for emerald green subway tile.  The black and white floor gives this space a retro feel, as well as the queen anne’s arm chair in front of the vanity.  The green tile is a great design choice to keep this space fun.  I love how the direction of the tiles were changed from horizontal to vertical, forming unexpected works of art without using art at all.  This bathroom has a high contrast scheme, and remember that high contrast spaces take on a very bold look.  If you’d like to attempt this, be aware that this will happen, but if you own it, you’ll have the best bathroom in town.

Going Green

The last bathroom trend I’m going to note is eco friendly.  It seems that most of the world’s products are headed in this direction, and the bathroom fixture industry is not out of this loop.  There’s plenty of ways to create an environmentally friendly bathroom through the use of eco rated showerheads and faucets, and dual flush toilets.  Sustainable bathroom materials are very trendy now, with the use of bamboo, and recycled glass products topping the list.
