Energy Saving Tips For Winter

This winter, to help keep your energy costs down, there are a few things you should pay attention to. We asked our General Contractor for tips. He mentioned that windows and doors are the greatest source of heat loss in the winter. To protect your home from losing the heat in these places, make sure that the weather stripping on the edges of the windows and doors is tight and creates a good seal. Home improvement stores sell a film you can apply with double sided tape to create another layer of insulation from the window if your seals around those areas are not tight.  In addition, you’ll want to make sure your furnace filters have been changed.  Many people also like to keep their furnaces above 70 degrees during the winter to keep the home toasty. To help with energy costs, you might try keeping the thermostat at 70 or just below and throwing on a sweatshirt. You don’t need to be wearing a tank top in the middle of winter!

Another quick tip: Use a smaller wattage bulb in your outdoor wall sconce as another way to keep the meter from running!
