Bathroom Decorating - Making the Space Exciting

The bathroom is often the first place that you head to in the morning, and the last place you visit before going to bed at night. A largely functional area, most people don't give much thought to the way this room looks. However, considering how much time you spend in the bathroom, you owe it to yourself to add a little excitement to the space, and make it a beautiful and invigorating part of the home.

To begin with you should look at the colors in the room. Most bathrooms have standard white or off white tiles lining the floors and walls. While this can be very tidy looking, it isn't very exciting. Use color and pattern in the various accessories that you bring into this space to create contrasting effects with existing structures. This will make the room more interesting, and will liven up the energy of the space.

In general dark colors will contrast nicely with white or lighter colors; however too much darkness can make a space seem gloomy. If the bathroom is already shadowed, use accessories which are lighter in color to return life and energy to the space.

Red is a particularly exciting color, whose presence can actually raise a person's metabolism, and make them more active, and aggressive. If you are having trouble getting started in the morning, try adding some red elements to the bathroom to make the space more inspirational.

If you are lucky you will have the option to change the color of fixtures such as floor tiles, sinks, vanities, and cabinets. If you aren't ready for that kind of a commitment there are a lot of ways that you can control the tone of the space, without having to absolutely destroy the place.

One of the major ways that you can control the colors in this space is through the use of the various cloth items used in the bathroom. The shower curtain is probably the most visible of these, as it stretches across the room like a giant banner. Other items include bath mats, floor rugs, and toilet seat covers. Towels and wash cloths are also available in a wide variety of tones. Mix and match these items in various colors, or contrast them, to create exciting tonal effects.

Unfortunately most bathrooms don't have very much room for decorative features. They are often largely consumed with functional necessities, and all of the surfaces, including the floor space, will be used to that purpose. Luckily, the walls are free, stretching out like great wide open canvases, that are just waiting for your decorative brush to fill them with interesting pieces.

Art prints are a popular way to add personality to the bathroom. These inexpensive framed pieces can depict any of the great masterpieces of history, enlightening the space and adding culture and dignity to it. There are also a variety of posters, portraits, and digital productions that can be purchased for this space. Just make sure that anything which you hang in the bathroom is framed in such a way that it is impervious to the moisture which can get quite heavy in this room.

Creating an exciting bathroom is about adding interesting elements to already existing structures. These elements can be functional in nature, such as the towels and bathmats that everyone uses, or they can be purely decorative, such as when art and various prints are used. The idea is to create contrast, and add visual cues, to enlighten the ambiance of the space and give it a more inspiring look and feel.
